Frequently asked questions
ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS SINCE 2017
- How much does a new roof cost?
- The cost of a new roof depends on the shingle material and size of the roof. All of our handled on a case-by-case basis so you can be sure you’re receiving an accurate estimate.

- How long does a roof last?
- The year-rating of a shingle can be misleading. Roofs in Texas are subjected to extreme temperature shifts in a year, sometimes more than 150 degrees in either direction, not to mention windstorms and hailstorms. Roofs in Texas tend to last 10-20 years, on average.
- What are the signs that I need a new roof?
- Your company representative is trained to spot hard-to-see signs of damage, but the obvious signs are missing or damaged shingles, dented metal material like gutters, or water leaking into your home. If a roof is damaged enough, it likely can’t be repaired and needs to be replaced.
- What is the best type of roofing material for my home?
- The right answer for you depends on your budget and the type of home you live in. Your choices include, to name a few, asphalt shingles, metal roofing, a tile roof, a slate roof, or a higher-tech option like F-wave. We can help you decide.
- How can I tell if my roof has storm damage?
- As previously mentioned, your project manager is trained to spot hard-to-see signs of damage, but the obvious signs you can see are missing or damaged shingles, dented metal material like gutters, or water leaking into your home.
- Does homeowners insurance cover roof replacement?
- There’s no universal answer – it will depend on your policy and the amount and types of damage to your roof. We will provide you a report on the state of your roof, so you can decide if your policy will cover the cost of a roof replacement.
- What should I look for in a roofing contractor?
- Good contractors should have at least one permanent office location, plenty of customer reviews and testimonials, a good website and social media presence with evidence they’re working, liability insurance, and a solid warranty. Texas Direct Roofing is proud to say we check all these boxes and more.
- How long does it take to replace a roof?
- Roof installation rarely takes longer than one day, but more time is needed on complex jobs. The process of an insurance-paid replacement from first inspection to final completion often takes 90 days.
- Can I install a new roof over an old one?
- Some roofers cut corners and save costs by overlaying new shingles on the old, and this is flat out wrong. That doesn’t allow a roofer to determine if the underlayment or decking is damaged beneath, essentially putting a bandaid on a festering wound. Texas Direct only installs the right way – tearing all roofs down to the wood decking and putting a new roof on from there.
- What maintenance does a roof need to extend its lifespan?
- Regular roof inspections, gutter cleaning, and trimming tree branches away from your roof are great ways to maintain its lifespan.
